Ryan won the BAFTA Cymru for Best Cinematography for ‘The Poet Who Loved the War: Ivor Gurney’. He has since been nominated three further times for his work on ‘American Interior’ in 2014, ‘The Fight’ in 2019 & ‘Grav’ in 2022 – which also won ‘Best Film’ – BAFTA Cymru.
Ryan has just wrapped shooting ‘Let’s Love’ starring Martin Freeman, Josh Hutcherson, Malin Akerman, Jess Weixler, Craig Roberts & Chloe Jouannet with director Jamie Adams, recently wrapped shooting all 6 episodes of the first series of BBC Comedy ‘Death Valley’ starring Timothy Spall and Gwyneth Keyworth with director Simon Hynd, last year shot ‘Doctor Who: Tales of the Tardis’ for Bad Wolf, and in 2022 shot Alice Lowe’s feature film ‘Timestalker’ (BFI) starring Alice Lowe, Aneurin Barnard, Nick Frost, Jacob Anderson & Tanya Reynolds, which has screened at SXSW / Fantasia / Edinburgh / Locarno / Sitges / Dinard festivals before it’s release on the 11th of October.
In the last 20 years, Ryan has shot 15 feature films, the highlights being Dolly Wells’ ‘Good Posture’, Jessica Hynes’ ‘The Fight’, Rhiana Yazzie’s ‘A Winter Love’, Alice Lowe’s ‘Prevenge’, 7 feature films for Jamie Adams, and 2 feature films for TV.
