Biography

Wales based BAFTA award winning Cinematographer. Feature film and TV.

Ryan won the BAFTA Cymru for Best Cinematography for ‘The Poet Who Loved the War: Ivor Gurney’. He has since been nominated three further times for his work on ‘American Interior’ in 2014, ‘The Fight’ in 2019 & ‘Grav’ in 2022 – which also won ‘Best Film’ – BAFTA Cymru.

In 2022 Ryan shot Alice Lowe’s feature film ‘Timestalker’ which was released in 86 cinemas in 2024 and is out now on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, BFI Player etc. In 2023 Ryan shot 6 episodes of ‘Doctor Who: Tales of the Tardis’ for Bad Wolf. In 2024, Ryan setup the look and shot all 6 episodes of the 1st series of ‘Death Valley’ starring Timothy Spall and Gwyneth Keyworth with director Simon Hynd, which will be broadcast on BBC One and Britbox in spring 2025. Late last year Ryan shot ‘Let’s Love’ with director Jamie Adams, an improvised feature film shot over six days starring Martin Freeman, Josh Hutcherson, Malin Akerman, Jess Weixler, Craig Roberts & Chloe Jouannet.

In the last 20 years, Ryan has shot 15 feature films including Dolly Wells’ ‘Good Posture’, Jessica Hynes’ ‘The Fight’, Alice Lowe’s ‘Prevenge’, 7 feature films for Jamie Adams, 2 feature films for TV as well as 2 TV series.
